Podiatry is a type of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg.
The service treats in-growing toenails, thickened or distorted nails, long-standing fungal nail infections and traumatised and infected toes. Surgery is performed under a local anaesthetic by the podiatric practitioner and patients will have their initial assessment and post-operative appointments.
Our podiatry service also assesses patients with foot problems or those who have medical conditions such as diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis that puts their feet at risk of developing further complications.
Podiatrists treat corns and calluses, foot ulcers and in growing toenails. They also provide the following services:
- Nail assessment and nail surgery
- Biomechanics to correct and improve foot problems and abnormal gait through the prescription of orthotics/insoles.
- Foot ulcers
Our podiatrist can also see athletes and children.
